Phoenix lived her life as a pet until she found her better future at PPI in 2017. Forced to live without companionship, a proper diet, or the ability to live her life freely, Phoenix’s living situation got much worse when the other family pet, a dog, attacked her. She suffered several injuries to her arms, especially to her right hand. Her owners at the time sought treatment for her injuries but ultimately chose to euthanize Phoenix to avoid the expense of veterinary care. Thankfully, the veterinarian contacted Primarily Primates to ask if we could help. PPI covered Phoenix’s veterinary care, and she was allowed to retire peacefully, finding sanctuary at Primarily Primates.
Now, Phoenix is happy, healthy, and chooses how to spend her days. She has found family with other ringtail lemurs, especially her bonded partner, Jordan. Despite best efforts by veterinarians, Phoenix lost her right hand, but it hasn’t prevented her from living a wonderful, active life. She loves grapes, jumping from one platform to another, and her caretakers.
