Jason spent years exploited by a research lab before finding sanctuary at Primarily Primates. One of his sponsors, who lives nearby and sometimes volunteers at the sanctuary chopping produce, said she was drawn to him because of the “good vibes” he puts out and because he always comes to say hi to her first before going after any food enrichment given to him. He loves receiving enrichment items filled with treats such as dried prunes. It always amazes us how the chimps are so present and enjoy what’s in front of them, even humans, despite being exploited in the past. Care staff are constantly amazed and in awe of Jason’s intellect and demeanor. He sometimes communicates with them using sign language.
