Born on Jan. 18, 2001, Jackson is a high-spirited, playful chimpanzee who knows how to keep life amusing. Whether he’s dashing around in a game of chase or stirring up some harmless mischief with his group, including CJ, Emma and Herbie, he’s like being the center of attention. These four chimps arrived in April of 2025 from Freedom for Great Apes, an Oregon sanctuary that opened in 1995 but decided to close its doors as its chimpanzee group naturally diminished. With his human upbringing, Jackson has developed a unique sense of style—often stomping around in an old sneaker he puts on the wrong foot and sporting upside-down sunglasses atop his big ears. When he’s not showing off for volunteers and trying to be in the spotlight, he can be found cuddling with a stuffed animal, proving that beneath all the antics, he’s just a big softie. With his endless charm and playful energy, Jackson ensures that there’s never a dull moment at the sanctuary.
