Become an intern at Primarily Primates
Are you ready to incorporate your love for animals with a unique opportunity to gain professional experience alongside our sanctuary care staff?
Primarily Primates, located in San Antonio, TX, is offering 2 unpaid internships at our facility. The sanctuary consists of a variety of species including chimpanzees, gibbons, baboons, lemurs, tamarins, macaques, capuchins, patas and squirrel monkeys, kinkajous and various birds.
Interns will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience. Throughout the internship, interns will shadow staff in daily husbandry techniques, training, and animal care for our residents.
Candidates for internship should be self-motivated and dependable. An internship at Primarily Primates is designed to provide students the opportunity to learn the following:
-Diet preparation & feeding
-Proper nutrition and care for primates and birds
-Observing and recording animal condition, social behaviors, and responses
-Designing, constructing, and evaluating enrichment
WORKING CONDITIONS
Internship requires good physical condition and ability to work long periods outdoors in all weather conditions. Requires lifting up to 50 lbs.
REQUIREMENTS
-The internship program runs for 10 weeks. Interns are expected to work an 8 hour day/ 1hour lunch (8 AM-5 PM) four to five days per week. This is a commitment of at least 400 hours.
-Must provide a current negative TB test result prior to starting date.
-Valid driver’s license.
-Comply with safety policies, practices, and procedures.
