Mark your calendars for Oct. 7, 2025—it’s Giving Day for Apes, an annual global day of giving to support Primarily Primates and other wildlife sanctuaries protecting apes around the world.
Giving Day for Apes is also about you—and the life-changing impact you have on apes in need. Every gift fuels hope: helping sanctuaries rescue, heal and care for apes who have suffered from being exploited by biomedical research, entertainment and the exotic pet trade.
They deserve a second chance, and you make it possible.
At PPI we are forever moving the goalposts in the interest of animal care. And because of funds raised in recent years we have been able to offer things like improved veterinary care, expanded opportunities for enrichment and new natural substrate enclosures, or green space as we call it.
In 2021 your donations made it possible for us to purchase veterinary dental equipment that allows us to perform dentals on our residents in house. In 2022, your generosity ensured our enrichment program and daily care remain second to none by helping us expand all our forms of enrichment—social, object, structural and food.
More recently your support made it possible for our chimps to have 24/7 access to green space with completion of two state-of-the-art green spaces, Rudy’s Playground and Ape Park One. They give our chimps even more choices because of increased opportunities for enrichment, exercise, socialization and play.
This is crucial because animals in sanctuaries need change in their lives since every day in the wild would be different.
This year will be raising money for an innovative habitat for our newest chimp residents, Herbie, Emma, Jackson and CJ, who we rescued from a shuttered Oregon sanctuary. It will feature aerial tunnels, two domes, a 1600-square foot bedroom with air conditioning and heating, and large windows. There will even be space to accommodate more chimps we rescue in the future. Stay tuned for updates on our social media and at givingdayforapes.org/.
