The Board of Directors of Primarily Primates is pleased to announce that Brooke Chavez has been named Executive Director. Chavez, who most recently served as Assistant Executive Director, will lead the San Antonio, Texas-based refuge’s efforts to ensure state-of-the-art, compassionate care to the nearly 500 primates, birds and other animals who reside there.
Primarily Primates president Priscilla Feral said, “We are pleased that Brooke is serving in this new role. Brooke is a passionate, visionary leader who knows how to juggle the endless tasks of leading a sanctuary. She’s served in many capacities during her time at Primarily Primates, and we’re excited for the talent she brings.”
Before joining the staff at Primarily Primates, Chavez—a passionate animal rights advocate— founded Sunny Day Farms Animal Sanctuary and served as director for over 12 years; Sunny Day became the largest sanctuary for farmed animals in the state of Texas under Chavez’s leadership.
Chavez says, “I have a passion for creating innovative, naturalistic habitats for all animals at Primarily Primates, and for building strong relationships with the San Antonio community; plus, the staff at the sanctuary are wonderful. I want to take Primarily Primates to the next level.”
Feral says, “Brooke is the right person for the job. We’re working on some really exciting projects, including a Prima-dome habitat for chimpanzees that we’re putting the finishing touches on, that require excellent leadership. We found that in Brooke, and look forward to working with her.”
