No one’s name is more fitting than chimpanzee Hope’s. She was born at the Southwest Foundation for Biomedical Research on Dec. 15, 1972 and was quickly taken away from her mother and raised in a nursery. For the first 10 years of her life, Hope struggled physically, so much so that there was great concern that she wouldn’t survive.
But Hope didn’t give up and fought through her health issues. These days she’s flourishing at Primarily Primates, where she’s free to make choices about how she spends her days. She enjoys drinking from the hose, watching DVDS, painting, playing with socks and having her tummy scratched. She never misses an opportunity to have grooming sessions with her troop mates Justin and Lisa.
