Make a Bequest

Primarily Primates, Inc. is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to provide lifetime care and housing for homeless, abused and abandoned animals, mostly primates, saving them from death or continued exploitation. Primarily Primates is not open to the public and does not breed, sell, or trade animals or use them commercially. Injured and ill native birds are rehabilitated and, when possible, released back into their native habitat. Incorporated in 1981, Primarily Primates is the oldest primate sanctuary in the United States.

The 78-acre refuge currently houses 300-plus animals, including 33 chimpanzees, and about 70 birds, and focuses mainly on caring for apes, monkeys and lemurs. Many are cast-offs from the pet trade and biomedical research institutions. Some are released from the entertainment industry or zoo exhibits. Animals who reside at Primarily Primates include chimpanzees once used in space training and testing protocols by the United States Air Force and in entertainment, such as Oliver, a chimpanzee once paraded on television shows as the “human-zee” due to a habit of walking upright.

But what about tomorrow?

With a lasting gift to Primarily Primates, we can help primates and other animals in need of rescue and refuge. Some of these primates live to over 50 years old, so our commitment is long lasting. Together, we can ensure that the vision you and Primarily Primates share lives on.

Here are some of the ways you can create a legacy:

WILLS – Safeguard the Future

Primarily Primates appreciates your current generosity and support. By including Primarily Primates in your will, you continue to reinforce our vision and abilities far into the future.

Everyone who owns assets needs a will. You spend a lifetime earning and saving what you have, and you alone should decide what becomes of your life’s work. If you pass away without a will, state laws will determine how your property will be distributed.

Making a will need not be costly and can be deeply satisfying. Thinking of loved ones and thoughtfully providing for them can assure that your will truly reflects your wishes. It is often during the careful, thoughtful process of planning and reviewing a will that people recognize the opportunity to remember charitable organizations. By providing a gift to Primarily Primates you gain the satisfaction of knowing you strengthened our vital work.

For professional advice and assurance that your document will be properly drafted, please contact your attorney. If you already have a will, you will only need to complete an addendum (codicil) to make changes.

Bequests – Make a Lasting Gift

A bequest to Primarily Primates in your will is an easy way to provide a secure future for animals in need. There are several ways to provide for non-profit organizations like Primarily Primates through a bequest in your will.

To make PPI a beneficiary you can structure your will as:
1) A specific dollar amount or property;
2) A percentage of your estate,
3) A percentage of your residuary estate, which is what remains after all specific bequests and expenses have been accounted for.

To name PPI in your will, all you need is the following information:
1) Legal name: Primarily Primates, Inc.
2) Address: 26099 Dull Knife Trail, San Antonio, TX 78255
3) Federal tax identification number: 74-2164756

In addition, the following language can generally be used to make a bequest to PPI:

“I give, devise, and bequeath to Primarily Primates, Inc., at 26099 Dull Knife Trail, San Antonio, TX 78255, federal tax identification number 74-2164756, the sum of $_______ [or describe the real or personal property or percentage of your estate] to be used for its general purposes.”

And don’t forget — you can name Primarily Primates as a beneficiary on your Life Insurance and Retirement accounts.

Many people underestimate the true value of their estate or don’t consider themselves “wealthy.” And sadly, some who give so generously throughout their lives neglect this wonderful opportunity to make a difference.

Perhaps a “hidden asset” you thought was of little value will help you to create an enduring legacy. No matter how large or small, every gift is valuable to the animals Primarily Primates safeguards. Your bequest can truly make a difference.

Thank You!
